Errant Beliefs #1: There’s No Such Thing as Mind Control
To effectively help a loved one who any form of mind control has destructively influenced, you must be able to address any existing misconceptions. Many people don’t understand the concept of undue influence or how intelligent, educated individuals can be deceived and recruited into authoritarian groups.
Over the past 40-plus years that I’ve worked with families and clients, I’ve often noticed common errant belief structures that prevent both families and their loved ones from further progress. Working with loved ones in cults sometimes involves having difficult, intense, and emotional conversations. If one or more members of the family have errant beliefs about mind control, it can and will impede the process. In working with this population, I’ve identified many common mistaken beliefs about mind control.
The first inaccurate belief readily prevents both families from extending efforts to keep trying to rescue a loved one and members from leaving and/or fully healing after leaving. This inaccurate, or errant belief is that mind control is not real.
