When I developed the BITE Model of Authoritarian Control™ decades ago, I built it to help people recognize destructive groups and help people exit safely. I anticipated that research into social psychology and neuroscience would evolve to include an ever-expanding body of knowledge about how to program people to serve the powerful.
What I did not fully anticipate back then was that the followers of one of the most consequential cult ideologies, Ayn Rand’s, would put on expensive business suits, embed themselves so deeply into finance and our political infrastructure, and wield massive influence over the everyday reality of Americans.
