Those are very wise and compassionate words and I will try mightily to do just that by not obsessing on how my descendants and countless others will suffer from the damages inflicted on them during this sad time in American history.
I am expressing compassion by deciding that they were tricked into that ideology. I refuse to blame them or see them as evil because that has caused a lot of baseless hatred.
Just heard Rich Logis on a New Yorker podcast. He was deep into MAGA and got out. He has a website leavingmaga.org with stories of several ex-MAGA folks. He would be a great person for Steve to interview.
Happy Thanksgiving! I’m bringing my MAGA mom to my home and the other relatives that have created MAGA Christian Nationalism spaces for themselves have the freedom to do so, even if they believe that I’m “satanic” for working at a university. They actually use the term “naked college people“ to refer to their belief that people that educate themselves voluntarily are innately immoral. Mom is eating Thanksgiving dinner with the MAGA relatives that still refuse to communicate, I will then transport her to my home where we can be together. It’s a massive improvement because previously none of them would communicate despite my not discussing politics and being welcoming.
Steven you’re such a kind person— I just can’t do what you suggest. My sister is progressive so our politics are fine, but she doesn’t want to have anything to do with me and I get so tired of being rejected. I just can’t reach out anymore. It’s humiliating.
