Spot-on as usual. Today Trump's niece , clinical psychologist Mary Trump, emphatically restated warnings she had written in her books. Trump is a nihilist, a malignant narcissist, who does not see/feel anything beyond himself. If/when he goes down, he will take everything/everyone down with him.

That’s what I’m afraid of 🌪️

Dictators are irrily similar in psychosis to cult leaders and thus serve as a warning that nearly all cult leaders , walk willing followers of cliffs.

We obviously haven’t learned our lesson and every generation will have that lesson 📝

My sister was a Scientologist and it caused a lot of rancor in our family. We really didn’t know what was going on. We really didn’t know. It’s just incredulous that we didn’t even talk about it. She got married to someone who is a great fellow who was a very knowledgeable and educated person and it was not a dealbreaker for him and since then she has come around

she read Hubbard‘s son’s expose book and saw the light, but I really have no more details.

Other than that I don’t know how she felt about it. She and I still do not get along. She is still very defensive.

The whole thing makes me feel so terribly bad and even worse, I don’t think it makes her feel bad. It’s very sad.

Yes, I have been curious about that myself, but she created her own family and is not really a person who likes to talk about reality and she treats strangers better than she treats me because she thinks that she looks different in their eyes than in mine. She doesn’t care if we ever see each other again and the last time I asked her out for coffee she declined. Yes I’ve made a lot of mistakes in our relationship, but I still want to be friends with her, but she won’t have it.

Also, in the 60s, I got my own degrees in psychology and studied cults at the time. I really don’t want to read about it anymore, especially now because there’s nothing I can do but watch other people burn their fingers on the stove.

I have just been satiated in any curiosity I had about mental health and mental illness as I am my other sister’s LBS conservator and I have been for eight years. I have had my foot on a land mine for all those years and I can’t take it off because I know my sister will end up under a bridge if I do.

The sister I first wrote about it hasn’t had to work for 50 years. Doesn’t have to worry if there’s any food in the refrigerator or if she has her rent money or if she can pay for her dog vet expenses. I have all of that to worry about no job and I’m taking care of my older sister, taking care of where she lives what medication she takes and it has literally driven me into the ground so I just try to get through every day without getting sued by my creditors and today I got through and nobody sued me so today was a good day, but I don’t try to solve any problems anymore. Thanks for all your links.

What is saddest for me in reading your loving account of concern for your sister is the lack of corresponding curiosity. Perhaps I am being presumptuous in which case I apologize. But for my own close brushes with being attracted to some "coercive social groups" and then taking some courses first at Queens College, CUNY then at U.C.-Berkeley that were inter-disciplinary courses boarded at the (Social) Psychology and (Group) Sociology departments I would not have been opened up to the academic discipline of what has come to be a burgeoning multi-lingual and International Cultic Studies curricula.

I very much recommend all of Dr. Steven Hassan's good works in this field and on this web-site titled Freedom of Mind....I was also very fortunate to have studied under Prof. Richard Ofshe of both Queens College and U.C.-Berkeley. Ofshe has gone on to become a consulting and designated Expert Witness in civil and criminal cases involving "...coercion in small groups, confessions, and interrogations."

There are so many areas of modern life where some background in the common practices and techniques of Coercion in even perfectly civil and legal 'social groups' that leave much room for opportunistic exploitation. Studying the commonality of techniques used in North Korea's military state of indoctrination and legal multi-level marketing platforms and their repertoire of entrepreneurial techniques used by a number of well-known cults as well as 'going concerns' aka 'social groups' and ideologies from Amway to therapeutic cults as the phase of Synanon described on the Wikipedia condensed description of the organization here (as well as more comprehensively and in fascinating forms by narrators studying these social groups from either\or both inside and outside makes for catalyzing curricula) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synanon

Always scroll down any wiki page you search for the notes (of News features articles or essays sourced as well as bibliography) and valuable often timely references.

As for cautionaries and a useful study of academic indoctrination there is a very slim book (now in paperback) whose primary sources are foot-noted and make an excellent reference guide published by American U. in Washington DC Professor of Communication Christopher Simpson and titled Science of Coercion. Communication Research and Psychological Warfare, 1945-1960. Christopher Simpson. Oxford University Press, New York, 1994:

This is very valuable information. I’m not sure how followers of Trump in the Maga cult become aware… obviously before they become aware they get these uncomfortable feelings at times I’m sure and there’s a moment to leap and often they do not leap, but if they see somebody else leaping or if they can relate to somebody else’s words, that is most valuable and that’s what this Substack is offering. 👏👏👏🩵🩵🩵

i'm wondering, though, I do not trust MTG although people are saying take what you can get, I feel like unless a sincere public apology is issued and why, I can't trust her. Her actions have just been too egregious in the past and she’s not claiming them either so I feel like she’s an opportunist.

Thoughts?💭💭💭

Eliminate 'opportunists' as useful sources and you'll be left in Sartre's existentialist play well titled No Exit, where hell is other people....Or in a solitary confinement of your own making!

As for Marjorie Taylor Greene I can see her fulfilling a far more useful role reflecting on her time in our free and Pay2Play political system at the front of a college classroom leading informed discussions about the sausage-making process of legislation and constituency representation as well as ideological advocacy.

Her recent comments suggest she is learning quite a lot on-the-job. I would not be at all surprised to see her writing a book about this Pilgrim's Process she has undertaken in her willingness to learn more about the often paradoxical positions and internal contradictions our Human Condition can twist US into as individuals with personal interests and as citizens within a body politic. And often so many more influences and methods such as "Faith" and\or "Open Inquiry."

Her Wikipedia condensed dossier suggests that "conspiracy theorist" is not the final goal of her forays into independent research and study of documents and records. Here, read the description for yourself and see if you too can foresee her career, researches and "business" pursuits amounting to a whale of a tale told in paperback with well-documented notes and sources for the wisdom each of US becomes a walking and acting representation of as part of da condition of da Human Condition (if we're lucky enough to live so long....): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marjorie_Taylor_Greene
